An artist must record, most of all, … feelings about the subject, the feeling of movement, sounds and even smells!
Mac Schweitzer, Tucson Daily Citizen, June 16, 1952
Mac frequently used pen and ink with spatters, speckles, and watercolor washes. Sumei ink and Japanese brushes became another favorite medium and tool. Sometimes she used conte crayon, charcoal, grease pencil, or even an occasional felt-tip marker.
In addition to formal drawings that she often titled, signed and sometimes dated, Mac left over 300 unsigned pencil sketches on off-white drawing paper. These reflect her daily drafting practice as ideas occurred or subjects crossed her path and she reached for a simple pad of paper. Sometimes such sketches served as models for larger projects developed in other media.
